flew away landed on a strong tree and sang hopped even higher until his wings touched the bright sky and glided up into the clouds to soar to sing to smile -KatG You are beautiful. And not the superficial, fashion-trends-that-will-be-over-by-next-week kind. The real, honest kind. The kind that makes you the only you in the world. There are so many things that make us feel inferior, or less-than, or ugly. You are not defined by someone's opinion of you, or the model on the cover of a magazine, or what that annoying boy in fifth grade thought of you. You are you. You are not inferior. You are you. You have a heart, and soul, and brain, just like everyone else. They give you life like they do everyone else. You are no less than every other wonderful human on this huge planet. And do you know what? All shapes, all sizes, all colors, all heights, and on and on... They are all beautiful. No matter what happened, or is happening, or will happen... No matter what your scars. No matter what has happened to you, or what you feel guilty for... You are wonderful. You were created. And you are the most beautiful person ever. Because you are you. You were a small bud. You were young, and in love with life. Now you are older and blossoming and realizing life has its ups and downs, its winters and very lovely springs. Now you know Who you are. You are you. So if you want to smile at a joke only you got...do it! If you want to wear absolutely zero makeup today...do it! If you feel like hugging someone randomly because they are the most awesome friend ever...do it! And if, you think, maybe, you are friendless, and unwanted, and just "not good enough"? THINK AGAIN. THINK AGAIN. THINK AGAIN. THINK AGAIN. Why would you think that? Somewhere, in the world, there is someone else thinking they are unwanted. Not good enough. Maybe even harmful. But you know better. Because you know you are beautiful. Maybe people cannot see it right away. Maybe yours is the kind of beauty that sits in your eyes and smiles at everyone. Waiting to spread light wherever it goes. Maybe yours is beauty that the world considers beautiful. Everyone is beautiful on the outside, because your insides were made by God. He literally breathed Life into you. So now you know. You are amazing. And if someone tells you you are not? Tell them you are. Be gentle. Be kind. Maybe they don't recognize true beauty for what it is yet. But they will. Because they met YOU. And everyone knows: God doesn't make things without a purpose. So you have a purpose. You are you... You are beautiful. You have a beautiful purpose. If you don't know what that is... That's okay. We never let flowers grow on their own. We water them. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. -Psalms 139:14 She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. -Proverbs 3:15 Therefore if any man be in Christ he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. -2 Corinthians 5:17 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. -Psalms 51:7 Just so you know. Live beautifully. This has been a PSA. ---KatG A couple years ago, I went to a conference for those who were in my campus Christian ministry group. Similar groups from around Kansas and Missouri got together to worship and hear a speaker speak on the Gospel as well as participate in workshops. One of the themes that year was brokenness. "Your brokenness is welcome here" was a phrase I cannot remember who coined, but who one of my Bible study leaders said over and over. She lived it. She often reminded us of this phrase. You are broken. But you cannot be filled up if you are empty. The Lord loves you even though you have pieces broken, or torn, or ripped, or shattered. Jeremiah 30:17 (KJV) says that God will heal our wounds and give us health. So in moving forward, remember that even if no one else sees your brokenness as beautiful, know that you were made by the King of Kings, our Father, and you are beautiful always. You do not have to be perfect. You just need to be you. ---KatG The trees wave as I walk the narrow path. Branches reach to gently touch my head, woody fingers trail through my hair. I look up. The trees wave. I walk on. Roots curl into my path, brushing my toes, exposing the flowery treasures hidden on them I bend and touch one; the orchid shivers in the dappled sunlight. Where is the lake? I ask. The trees point. I follow them. The lake is blue as the sky, clouds floating on its pristine surface. I jump! The trees clap as I surface, soaking wet. They laugh as I spit out lakewater. The sun is low. I wring out my dress and walk back the path I have come, bare feet sticky with brown mud. I gasp. Where is the path? It vanished like the mist at noon. The trees rub my back. Never fear, they whisper. We will show you the way. I follow them. They wave at me to hurry, hurry, it is dark in the field and will soon be night. I run after them. The field is wide, rippling with tall golden grasses. I breathe, joy in my chest. Thank you. You are always welcome. I wave as I run to the dark little house on the hill, in the vast golden field. I turn and wave one last time at the trees. The trees wave back. Come again soon, they sing. Waving. --KatG |
